How we rate ourselves has a dramatic impact on our emotional wellbeing. The media and screens are littered with statements suggesting we should ‘love’ ourselves and in the very least accept who we are. Thousands of books have been written to help people improve their sense of self-esteem but this can be difficult, and near-on impossible for those who have received a lot of criticism, disapproval and disappointment in their lives. Even the concept of self-worth can trigger self-criticism which then exacerbates low self-esteem.
